20's Plenty for Clevedon

Clevedon Report

"Clevedon has a network of residential roads entered via six roads from the surrounding countryside. The residential pattern is broken by the semi-circular road Southern Way-Central Way-Northern Way. This highway has residences alongside it but few fronting it, and forms a community barrier. Reducing traffic speed on Central-Northern Way would be key to encouraging community interaction and a quieter more relaxed environment. Reducing to 20mph would increase the time taken to drive from Salt House Fields to the motorway roundabout by 1.8 minutes when traffic is low. At peak times and for other journeys in Clevedon the time difference will be even less noticeable.

Reducing traffic speed in Clevedon would have many benefits – increased business for local shops, a friendlier town, a safer environment, more freedom for children, improved health and vitality for residents. It would be safer for children to walk and cycle to school – particularly in Old Street, Portishead Road, Strode Road and Southern Way. It would create an environment in which Clevedon is a much more pleasant place to walk around."
